Black Rock Desert

For the first Raptor Offroad Community (ROC) outing of 2017, we headed north of Reno, NV to explore the Black Rock Desert.  The winter storms definitely took their toll on the desert trails, which made for some serious washouts to traverse and lots of mud puddles.

ROC Attacks Area 51

When you hear about a trip to Area 51, most of us imagine that strange and abnormal things will happen during the trip. Well, this expedition was certainly one of those tales. Saturday morning the group met to go over the day’s activities, the usual safety brief and reminders about “taking it easy.” The morning was cold and overcast, which was nice, as it was 98 degrees on the drive in the day before.

Silver State Adventure

The Silver State Adventure is now in the books. Twenty-two trucks covered 560 miles from Reno to Las Vegas, 524.2 miles of which was on the dirt. We had hoped to only drive 21 miles of pavement, but we ran out of time day two. Unlike some of our other runs/trips, we had to push the group to keep moving at times because we had to cover a lot of ground before we lost daylight (not everyone had aux lights because they were not a requirement for this trip).
